Isabel Rogers' "Eraser"

"I am a musician, artist and activist from Western Maine. I was challenged to write the song Eraser by fellow climate activists when discussing the question "what is your climate story?" in a workshop hosted by Maine Climate Action Now and the Telling Room. I completed this song in spring of 2022, writing and composing it in a week. Eraser is about the negative and hopeful emotions surrounding climate change and our experience with the uncertainty of the climate crisis. I create contrast between the two emotions throughout the song. My verses are a buildup of increasing doubt and a cry of hopelessness, eventually leading into the song's bridge, a hopeful reminder to "listen to the glorious song" of nature. The recording of the song is captured live to allow the listener to resonate with it more closely. I enjoy using song as an artform for positive change. As a songwriter, I believe that music is a very powerful way to use your voice as an activist. It allows me to amplify my messages through sound, using a language that encourages others to listen in a different, open minded way."
